Bordeauxská doga je atletický pes atraktivního vzhledu. Svým prahem vzrušivosti patří spíše k těm klidnějším molossům. Je to velmi mohutné plemeno, s plasticky vystupujícími svaly, elegantní v pohybu. Patří celkově mezi nejnáročnější psy co do kvality a vyváženosti krmiva. Při výběru štěněte je vhodné zamyslet se i nad zdravotními aspekty.

Bordoška doga je direktni potomak brojnih vrsta doga koje su vrlo davno obitavale u Francuskoj. Sredinom 19.st. te su stare vrste Francuske doge brzo nestale osim u pokrajini Alvitaniji.

Na prvi pogled doima se kao mišičavi, nabijeni, impozantni i ponositog atleta koji ulijeva poštovanje. Nekoć pas za borbu a danas on nalazi primjenu kao pas čuvar koji zadatak ispunjava sa pažnjom i srčanošću, a ipak bez agresivnosti. Jako je ovisan o svom gospodaru prema djeci je jako pažljiv.

Este scurt, masiv şi impozant. Craniul lat, plat este acoperit cu piele bogată care formează riduri şi falduri. Stopul este bine definit, botul lat şi adânc iar maxilarele puternice. Trufa este voluminoasă. Buzele groase, cărnoase atârnă.

Liksom alla doggar härstammar troligtvis även den franska bulldoggen från molosserhundar från den antika grekiska provinsen Epirus och från det romerska kejsardömet, vilket hade ursprunget till den engelska bulldoggen, samt från s k alanohundar (alanerna var ett medeltida nomadfolk) och från franska stora doggar och dvärgdoggar.
